I want to ask the questions that provoke thought and that get to the heart of “why”. The work for me is about reach and risk. I want to create an environment that feels safe enough to take risks, and at the same time feels frightening because the work is just a little bit bigger than any of us think we can manage. As both a director and a teacher, I work hard to meet each person in the room where they are, and see them for who they are. Some students need to be challenged, some need to be supported, some need to feel strong enough to try things they never have, and some need to feel afraid of the work. I want the other artists in the room to feel they accomplished more than they thought they could.
